What is it? A barcode system is available on Kodak's high speed CD-R recorders. The system creates a database of the information stored on each CD-R disc and can automatically locate and retrieve discs to access files requested by the user. How does it work? Each Kodak CD-R disc is printed with a unique serial number in barcode form. As information is recorded to the CD-R disc, the system read the disc's barcode and creates a database entry listing the barcode and the disc's files. This system allows the user to perform database search functions to locate desired data, files, images, etc. The system can then automatically locate and retrieve the correct disc and corresponding files. Does Imation have CD-R discs that are compatible with this system? No, Imation CD-R discs are not compatible with this system. Kodak has patented the CD-R barcode system and is not currently licensing its use. Kodak is the only source of CD-R discs for users who have the barcode system and need discs with a compatible barcode.
